Description

This event is part of the RMU Postdoc Career Weeks 2026

Unlock the power of collaborative software development with our hands-on workshop designed for beginners and curious learners! This session will equip you with the essential skills to manage your code efficiently using GitLab and Git.

You will learn to navigate the GitLab Web UI (gitlab.rlp.net), create and organize projects, and collaborate with others using issues and merge requests. We will also guide you through the fundamentals of the Git command line – adding, editing, and deleting files – and show you how to confidently resolve merge conflicts when they arise.

By the end of this workshop, you will be ready to start managing your own projects, contribute to team repositories, and understand the core workflows that power modern software development.

No prior experience required – just have your laptop ready, be curious and have no fear of the command line.

If you work with Windows, it’ll be an advantage to have git-bash (https://git-scm.com/install/windows) already installed.
