Within our profile areas, we contribute to the continuous expansion of knowledge through excellent research and thereby to the transformation of society. In addition to new research fields emerging within the profile areas, groundbreaking insights and innovations also arise from research approaches at the interfaces between these areas, contributing to the dynamic further development of the RMU research profile. This is enabled not only strategically through the targeted use of synergistic strengths — namely the expertise and infrastructures of the three universities and the profile areas — but also through a highly efficient set of instruments that creates a research ecosystem at the highest level. In this way, we deliberately channel resources, appointments, and collaborative funding toward projects that leverage the complementary expertise of the partner universities, systematically transforming existing synergies into a driving force for enhancing the excellence status of all our key research areas.

Each profile area is currently represented by an initial team of three spokespersons who regularly coordinate with the Vice Presidents for Research. The spokespersons of the profile areas motivate, coordinate, and initiate promising initiatives within their respective profile areas.
