RMU DIGITAL ensures that scientists benefit from the strong digital environment and the expertise in the field of artificial intelligence within RMU. We guarantee that required access to digital infrastructures types is provided at highest standards to all researchers within RMU. This includes as well a barrier free collaboration with external cooperating partners.

RMU DIGITAL Service Space

As an RMU researcher you receive access to shared computing capacities, AI environments and data storage systems through the coordinated RMU DIGITAL Service Space management. This includes research-related services for research data management, research software development and use of high-performance computing. To enable optimal collaboration, RMU DIGITAL will organize federated data spaces, and data products are made available in a decentralized RMU data network.

RMU DIGITAL Federated Data Space

All RMU researcher benefit from coordinated software infrastructures, application platforms and access to experts for supporting the development of research software. RMU DIGITAL data and software services are FAIR services: They are findable to everyone, accessible to all RMU members and their cooperation partners, interoperable with each other, and created and processed content is reusable in other RMU DIGITAL services. A special focus is placed toward development of the trustee concepts. This enables RMU researchers to reuse sensitive data, e.g. from medical research, economic cooperation, social science surveys, and more in a seamless manner within the RMU DIGITAL federated data space. This is designed in such a way that the necessary requirements for data protection, privacy and data sovereignty are fully addressed.

RMU DIGITAL Data and Code Archives

Using a container approach, you as an RMU researcher can publish your data and software in stand-alone containers. These containers are fully reproducible and can be embedded in text publications. This allows you to publish data and software together and seamlessly from the federated RMU data space. These archives thus ensure the reproducibility of software and data publications, even over a period of more than ten years.

RMU DIGITAL Data and Research Software Stewards

In an RMU-wide network data stewards and research software engineers work together collaboratively to establish new approaches on topics such as data engineering, AI-ready data or sustainable high-performance computing as well as to create synergies between the locations by pooling of expertise . Training opportunities and long-term career paths will help to build a stable talent pool of highly competent data stewards and research software engineers at RMU.

RMU freeda Smart Science Space: Technology Demonstrator

Guided by the principle „Free Data. Free Science. Free Society.“ we are developing an AI-driven knowledge operations platform as a single gateway for information on research, infrastructure, collections, resources training, and innovation.

In its current phase, freeda is a functional technology demonstrator that links distributed research information. Freeda is the dynamic, semantic digital twin of the RMU, which researchers and partners of the RMU can contact in future with any questions they may have about people, projects, results, and resources. For this it combines a functioning backend for standardized data processing with an interactive interface for natural-language search, reasoning and visual exploration. The prototype already integrates example data and illustrates how research facilities, collections and projects from the three universities can be connected through a unified system.

Its FAIR-based data management ensures that information is findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable while maintaining ethical, legal and economic safeguards. Freeda will develop into a key platform for Open Science and data-driven decision-making at the RMU in the upcoming stages of development.
