This event is part of the RMU Postdoc Career Weeks 2026
The workshop starts with a brief introduction to the core concepts and developments of Open Science and then invites participants to reflect on their own research practice, considering Open Science as an integral part of good scientific practice. Together we will discuss where the opportunities and challenges lie – and how open practices can be concretely embedded in day‑to‑day work and in the supervision of PhD candidates.

- Brief introduction to the core concepts and aims of Open Science
- Re‑thinking Open Science: from individual practices to a research culture
- Linking Open Science and good scientific practice
- The role of postdocs as multipliers and supervisors
- Typical challenges and goal conflicts in everyday research
- Exchange of experiences, obstacles, and possible solutions
Learning Objectives:
- You will receive a concise overview of the central aspects of Open Science
- You will reflect on your own research practice with regard to Open Science
- You will broaden your understanding of Open Science as a component of scientific integrity
Trainer:
Dr. Melanie Groß studied Biological Anthropology and Education with a focus on Adult Education at the Universities of Freiburg and Mainz and earned her doctorate in the field of paleogenetics. Since 2021, she has been employed at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU). Initially, she worked as a project and Open Science manager for the European university alliance FORTHEM, where she actively promoted open science practices. Since the end of 2024, she has been based at the Mainz University Library in the Competence Center for Academic Integrity. There, she developed and now implements an Open Science certification program for JGU staff. In addition, she contributes to various formats aimed at raising awareness of and teaching Open Science practices. Currently, she is completing training to become a certified trainer in Good Scientific Practice and is actively engaged in promoting scientific integrity and responsible research.
