Description
Following the AfD’s electoral success in Saxony-Anhalt, many are wondering how democracy and academic freedom can be defended at universities. In her lecture, Prof. Heike Krieger will present the position paper “On Strengthening the Freedom and Resilience of the Sciences” by the Senate Working Group of the German Research Foundation (DFG). The paper addresses the motives and scenarios behind such attacks, as well as structural vulnerabilities in the German academic system. However, the focus is on concrete recommendations for researchers and universities aimed at strengthening resilience and prevention, as well as for dealing with acute threats. After all, attacks on individual researchers or specific disciplines are always intended to weaken academia as a whole.
