The Archaeobotanical Reference Collection is part of the Natural Sciences focus area at the Institute of Archaeological Sciences. Comprising around 19,000 seeds, fruits, woods, pollen, and other parts of modern plants, it is an indispensable resource. The samples are invaluable as references for the identification of plant remains from sediments and archaeological sites and are therefore crucial for reconstructing past diets, environments, climate, and plant use. The collection is constantly being expanded and plays a central role in the securing third-party funding for research projects.
