Collection Frankfurt and Rare Prints

  • Humanities and Social Sciences

The University Library of Frankfurt am Main has a very extensive collection of literature published about Frankfurt since 1500. Frankfurt literature was already maintained as a separate special collection in the former Frankfurt am Main City Library in the 19th century. Unfortunately, there are some gaps in the old collection due to the war. A special part of the Frankfurt Rare Prints Collection is the “Artists' Books Collection,” which includes books that use and showcase artistic expression in a wide variety of forms.

The spectrum of the artist's book collection ranges from original graphic interpretations of literary texts to the use and processing of unusual materials to elaborately designed unique books. The collection now comprises approximately 800 titles. In addition to the existing artist's books and book objects, the library owns around 1,200 press prints and many other bibliophile editions.
