Dr. Senckenberg Anatomy Collection – University Hospital

  • Life Sciences

The collection was founded in 1772 with the establishment of Dr. Senckenberg's anatomy department. When the anatomy department was relocated to the Niederrad university campus and then moved again within the campus, it suffered its first near-total loss of objects. It was therefore rebuilt in the 1920s and early 1930s, but was almost completely destroyed again during an Allied bombing raid in World War II. This was followed by further reconstruction in the 1950s to 1970s and a redesign of the exhibition collection. Today, the collection comprises an exhibition of human specimens that medical students can use for self-study.
