Ethnographic Collection – Frobenius Institute

  • Humanities and Social Sciences

The approximately 6,000 objects in the Frobenius Institute's ethnographic collection originate mainly from the everyday culture of African societies. Indigenous ceramic production in particular is comprehensively documented. In recent years, the collection has been systematically expanded to include objects from Nigeria, Brazil, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea, which in various ways reflect local responses to global processes of transformation.
