Numismatic Collection
- Humanities and Social Sciences
The numismatic collection comprises approximately 2,100 objects, as well as plaster casts (approximately 40,000) and photographs (approximately 400,000) of coins from Greco-Roman antiquity. The originals and plaster casts are gradually being catalogued via Goethe University's digital coin cabinet. This digital coin cabinet is linked to numismatic portals worldwide, so that the objects can be found in specialist databases and their data can be reused. Students participate in the digital cataloguing of the numismatic collection. Accordingly, it plays an important role in the numismatic teaching of the Institute of Archaeological Sciences. In addition, the material can be used by internal and external scientists.
