More than 30 scientific collections belonging to the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research are located in Frankfurt am Main. These include zoological, botanical, and paleontological/geological collections. Some of the collections have close historical ties to Goethe University, while others originate from various research contexts and are now integrated into research and teaching at Goethe University by Senckenberg staff. Here we introduce paleoanthropology and the Gustav Heinrich Ralph von Koenigswald collection as representatives of the paleontological/geological collections.
We would like to thank the Werner Reimers Foundation in Bad Homburg (Germany) for making the collection of G. H. R. von Koenigswald available on permanent loan to the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum in Frankfurt for scientific research purposes.
The collection of the former anthropological institute of Goethe University is also on permanent loan here.
