Student Teaching Collection in Forensic Medicine
- Life Sciences
- Natural Sciences
The collection was established in 1937 when the institute moved to Kennedyallee (then Forsthausstraße). Its objects, which are constantly being added to, served as evidence in court proceedings and may now be used for teaching purposes once the investigations have been completed. The collection focuses on general forensic medicine. The objects, each with their own unique stories, show various types of injuries such as cuts and stab wounds, gunshot wounds, various fractures, etc. The collection plays an important role in teaching by illustrating a wide range of injury patterns, thus providing students with important assistance for their future careers. They learn to distinguish and classify types of injuries as well as natural and unnatural causes of death. The plastic objects convey much more concrete knowledge than photographs.
