Description

This event is part of the RMU Postdoc Career Weeks 2026

What are alternative career paths for postdocs outside academia? And how do you get there?

Our speakers successfully transitioned from research positions to innovative fields in industry and science management. They will share their experiences with you, talk about their individual career development, provide insights into their application processes, the transition from university research to an industrial/management setting, their work contents, as well as current topics and innovations in their fields. There will be plenty of time for questions and discussions about career strategies with a doctorate.

Guests:
Dr. Katarina Kruspig obtained her PhD in Molecular Cell Biology in Slovakia (including an internship in Sweden – at Karolinska Institutet). Following her PhD, she did a 4-year postdoc at CRUK Scotland Institute (Glasgow). Afterwards, she was 3,5 years on maternity leave – switched countries during this period – and now works as SFB 1361 Coordinator (50% position) at IMB’s Scientific Management (since Jan 2024).
Dr. Philipp Veit is an expert in circular battery economy and EU battery research and regulation. He finished his PhD in organometallic chemistry at JGU Mainz in 2020. After his PhD he worked for a member of the European Parliament in energy, climate and chemistry policy. During his free time, he served 6 years as a voluntary executive board member of the UrStrom energy cooperative Mainz, where he built up the business unit electric car sharing. From 2022-2024 he managed the European large scale research initiative BATTERY 2030+ at KIT. In October 2024 he joined Circunomics as "Senior Business Development Manager & Public affairs" to bring his background in chemistry, battery research and European politics into the circular battery economy.

Target group: Early Career Researchers (R1, R2, R3) from TU Darmstadt, JGU Mainz and GU Frankfurt.
