Physics of extremes: the Cluster of Excellence PRISMA++

Prof. Dr. Concettina Sfienti und Prof. Dr. Alfons Weber von Prisma++

In the Cluster of Excellence PRISMA++ (Precision Physics, Fundamental Interactions and Structure of Matter) at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz, researchers are examining the building blocks of matter and their fundamental interactions.

The Cluster of Excellence from the RMU profile area Matter is one of a total of five Clusters of Excellence at the Rhine-Main Universities is one of a total of five Clusters of Excellence at the Rhine-Main Universities that receive funding in the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.

Using  a combination of innovative precision experiments conducted on the JGU campus in Mainz and large-scale experiments at international locations, researchers at PRISMA++ are searching for new particles and forces.

In our interview, spokespersons Professor Concettina Sfienti and Professor Alfons Weber talk about the joint goal towards which more than 300 researchers are working together within PRISMA++, how this helps support early career researchers and how the Cluster of Excellence benefits from the close collaboration within the Rhine-Main Universities as well as with non-university partners in the Rhine-Main region and beyond.

The RMU Insights video series:
Take a look behind the scenes of the RMU! In short video interviews, we present exciting projects and voices from research, studies, teaching and transfer at the Rhine-Main Universities. Tune in and hear RMU members report on their developments, successes and what makes their work in the university alliance so special.
