Workshop with Dr. Elisabeth Hoffmann

As a researcher, how can I get my research into media or out into the public? What is of interest to the media and to other target audiences, and how should I present this? What should I keep in mind when dealing with press enquiries? And what are the benefits for me personally, and for my institution? In this module, you will gain an initial insight into science communication, with a focus on press and media relations. You will learn how to make better use of science communication methods and tools for your own benefit, your research and your professional development.

Dr Elisabeth Hoffmann is Head of Communications and Marketing and Chief Communication Officer at the University of Cologne. She studied Comparative Literature at the University of Bonn. After completing her PhD, she undertook a traineeship at the Deutsche Universitäts-Zeitung (DUZ). From 1996 to 2022, she headed the Press and Communications Unit at the Technical University of Braunschweig. Whilst there, she also served part-time as the founding managing director and later as an authorized signatory of Haus der Wissenschaft Braunschweig GmbH. In 2015, she was voted Research Spokesperson of the Year. She is a co-initiator of the ‘Siggener Kreis’ on the future of science communication and a coach for leaders within the academic sector.

This event is part of a series on science communication at JGU. If you attend four or more events in the series, you will receive the “WissKomm-Basics” certificate. All events are automatically open to participants from our RMU partner universities.

Through the Open Science and Science Communication project (COM Department), JGU is establishing a campus-wide advisory and professional development programme on science communication. Researchers and staff from all disciplines and at all levels of expertise benefit from support services and programmes designed to develop their skills. The project thus expands on existing science communication initiatives in Rhineland-Palatinate (WissKomm Academy) and at the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU).
