Description
This introductory course in higher education pedagogy focuses on the fundamentals of pedagogical practice in university teaching. The content emphasizes fostering student learning in line with the “shift from teaching to learning.” It is recommended that participants in this workshop offer at least one course during the current semester that provides an opportunity to apply the insights gained in the workshop to their own teaching.
Participation in Submodule 1-1 includes the following components:
- Attendance at the two-day workshop “1-1 Teaching and Learning in Theory and Practice”
- Conducting a peer classroom observation (including pre- and post-observation discussions)
- Participation in two teaching supervision sessions
- Reflection on and documentation of the submodule in the portfolio accompanying the certificate
Objectives:
Participants
- are familiar with various didactic concepts and perspectives and have reflected on them.
- have examined their own teaching and learning experiences and reflected on their role as university instructors.
- are familiar with the fundamentals of active learning.
- independently plan their own course based on learning objectives.
- select appropriate teaching and assessment methods based on their learning objectives.
Contents:
- Fundamentals of didactic practice in teaching
- Conditions of teaching-and-learning processes
- Aspects of participant- and action-oriented teaching
- One’s own role as a teacher
- Experimenting with and exploring active learning methods (microteaching)
- Self-reflection and group reflection
- Strategic course planning based on learning objectives
- Selection of teaching and assessment methods based on established learning objectives (constructive alignment)
