Description

How can generative AI be used in teaching to foster learning? What didactic possibilities exist for using AI tools profitably in teaching or for reflecting on AI output? How can critical questions relating to AI be discussed with students?

We will explore these questions using three exemplary teaching ideas from courses that have been tested by professors at RMU universities. You can also share your own experiences and exchange ideas with colleagues.

Book studies as a reflective cultural practice: A seminar writes a book with the help of ChatGPT (Prof. Dr. Christoph Bläsi, Book Science, JGU Mainz)

This teaching idea presents a master's seminar in book science at Mainz University: with the help of an early version of ChatGPT, the students worked with the innovation team of a scientific publishing house to write a book that was actually published. One of the goals was to prepare students for a career influenced by AI. Christoph Bläsi will report on the genesis, implementation and findings of this experiment.

Teaching and learning about AI: What do students know about AI? And what should they know? (Prof. Dr. Andreas Dengel, Computer Science Education, Goethe University Frankfurt)

This teaching idea presents action-oriented methods for introducing the topic of AI in a school context, based on the results of a survey of learners' perceptions of how various AI systems work.

AI literacy as part of introduction courses on "Learning and Working Strategies" for first-semester bachelor students in human sciences (Dr. Miriam Hilgner, Bärbel Kühner-Stier, Prof. Dr. André Seyfarth, Department of Human Sciences, TU Darmstadt)

The presentation introduces proven teaching concepts from introduction courses in human sciences. It shows how lectures and tutorials with weekly inputs, writing exercises, and peer reviews systematically guide students toward scientific learning and working techniques as well as a reflective, responsible approach to generative AI.

Note: This workshop is a collaboration between RMU and is open to professors.
