A big step for the Rhine-Main Universities

In their respective plenary sessions on 11 September 2025, the Hessian State Parliament and the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament unanimously passed two identical resolutions to strengthen the transregional Rhine-Main science region.

Of particular importance to us: The members of parliament reaffirmed actively supporting the further development of the RMU, removing potential obstacles resulting from the location of our network in two federal states, and reserving the right to conclude a state treaty between Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse in the future in order to harmonize the legal framework of our partner universities even more comprehensively.

This makes it clear that politicians see the RMU as a driving force for scientific excellence, international visibility, and innovation in the heart of Europe.

We are delighted about the recognition of the successes of our cross-state cooperation and about the backing for our alliance.

Two identical motions for resolutions in the state parliaments of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate – an absolute first and a strong signal for the future of the Rhine-Main region as a center of science!
