RMU Initiative Funding for Research for new and existing collaborations – Call for Applications

The funding lines of the RMU Initiative Funding for Research announced in January 2023 support both existing and well-advanced research collaborations as well as the establishment of new research networks at the RMU. At least two of the three RMU member universities must be significantly involved in the collaboration projects.

After the Rhine-Main Universities (RMU) announced the funding line “Early Career Researchers” for the first time in October 2022, another two funding lines from the RMU Initiative Funding for Research are now to follow:

The funding line “Start-up funding for RMU collaborative projects” (formerly funding line 1) is geared to advanced proposals for large, strategically relevant collaborative research projects that will be ready for proposal submission within one year (for instance, Collaborative Research Centres, Research Training Groups or DFG Research Units as well as collaborative EU projects and funding by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research [BMBF]). For this purpose, the costs for coordination offices and joint workshops, for instance, will be financed up to a maximum of EUR 50,000. There is no deadline for the call for applications. Proposal initiatives can be submitted to the Vice‑Presidents responsible for research throughout the year.

The funding line “Funding of RMU networking in innovative projects” (formerly funding line 2) offers start-up funding for networking activities for new, innovative RMU collaboration projects, including those with potentially high-risk research ideas. Among other things, joint publications, joint events and preparations for third-party funding applications are eligible for funding. Funding amounts to between EUR 20,000 and EUR 40,000 per year for a maximum of two years. Applications can be submitted by 15 April 2023 to koordination@rhein-main-unis.de .
